Picture it…Benoni 1978. Springbok Radio is playing The Rivers of Babylon and cousins Jacs and Lou are trying to dry off after 5 hours of swimming on a balmy South African Summer’s Day. A scratchy towel greets the revelers like David Kramer in a VW Kombi on a gravel road; like the minibus it means well, but the towel gives them no feeling of comfort and well being. The little cousins dreamt of a day when they could be dried off after a day in the pool in comfort and style.
Fast forward to 2019 after Jacs invented Shloompa and Lou joined the business, they pooled their collective expertise to offer SA a lifestyle product available on Lou’s List, where families can lounge pool side and eat their boerie rolls in radiant colours and fabrics befitting our uniquely SA Vibe. Welcome to Shloompa.

There is a secret pocket (or maybe now that we are telling you, there “was”), for your keys and other essentials when you are in the water.
But for those unathletic Saffas, and there may be at least 5 of you, you can lounge around in one of these bad boys even if your mother in law has given you the cold shoulder.
The Shloffa is there for you – always.
So be a Shloffa bro, be lekker.
Your laaities will love them too, they are so soft.
Wedgewood
Best nougat in town

35 4th Avenue, Parkhurst, Randburg, 2193, Johannesburg
After our father became ill with cancer, to make ends meet our mother, Gilly Walters, held concerts for music lovers at our family home for up to 100 guests. With her passion for good food, our Mum created her innovative recipes to serve to her guests. At one of these concerts, Gilly tested her nougat making skills. The taste was great but the recipe was a flop! Not one to give up, our Mum went back to the drawing board. Our family kitchen became a constant stream of nougat to be tasted, pulled and prodded by anyone who stepped over the threshold. Eventually, after a year of false starts, Gilly perfected her well-loved nougat recipe and packed it into baskets to sell at the local farmer’s market. Such was the demand for our Mum’s delicious nougat, and later her nougat biscuits, that production grew fast. So, her sons jumped in to stir pots and help where we were needed. And that’s how Wedgewood Nougat began. In 2019, Wedgewood celebrated its 20th anniversary as a family business, gathering new members along the way. Our nougat is still handmade on our farm and we work with the same passion and commitment that we always have, whilst creating exciting new recipes and all the while keeping a very particular eye on quality, just the way our Mum did.

Greenside, Johannesburg
Kirsty, owner of Starched, Physiotherapist, mom to two beautiful girls…Robyn and Gemma and 4 fur babies…affectionately known as Kinny, Booza, Kitty and Gus and of course, last, but not least wife to Gavin, a budding entrepreneur and my biggest fan. I am a mixed box of tricks and love a new challenge. Our lives are fast paced and sometimes a little crazy, but we are all go getters and feast off each other’s enthusiasm and zest for life. Most of the time, I am juggling many balls, but I’m always happy to add another one to the mix. I do life in the FAST LANE!
Starched was born through a yearning to add another dimension to my career and to further focus on bettering my own life, but to help others along their way and allow them to see their worth and build their confidence. With Ponex, my chief seamster and right-hand man. We have managed to build the brand that is STARCHED and bring it to life.
Our focus is on workwear that allows everyone to be comfortable, whilst expressing themselves stylistically at work.

Special teacher for special children

Greenside, Johannesburg
Since the start of my teaching career, my passion has been working with children who learn differently; who respond to individualized and personalized programmes that suit their learning styles. In particular, children with ADHD, Dyslexia and Autism Spectrum Disorders need to understand HOW they learn, and to acquire the necessary skills to manage their learning. In other words, give them a ‘toolbox’ and show them how to help themselves. This is a valuable life skill!
I provide individual and small group remedial therapy from Grade 1 – 7, in the Randburg, Sandton and Johannesburg areas.
I have 3 children and 1 granddaughter. The joys of ‘Grannydom’ transcend anything I could ever have imagined; and the joy, fun and blessings are mutual. As a hands-on Nana, I indulge in all those activities that I loved during my own childhood such as music, fantasy, dressing up, painting, crafts and art.
Imaginate
Inspiring children to have creative adventures

The Magic Cottage, Kildare Avenue, Parkview, Johannesburg
I’m powered by stories, dark chocolate and love, and I’ve been exploring and delighting in the creative process all my life.
During many years as a Foundation Phase teacher, my greatest joy lay in being able to inspire, facilitate and celebrate the imaginative, creative adventures of the pupils in my care. Through my Imaginate art classes in Parkview, I seek to offer children a safe, nurturing space that is rich in possibilities and which provides a strong support for the joyful process of creative expression. Whether it's through a cardboard box that's become a rocket bound for space or a giant sheet of paper exploding with colour, I want to empower those who imaginate with me to express themselves freely and creatively.
My Imaginate classes offer children from Grade 0 to Grade 4 wonder-full art and craft experiences that invite their shiny imaginations out to play. They happily paint, draw, dream, build, design and explore using a wide variety of materials and techniques. My Imaginators come to these fun-filled classes to create, but they leave with so much more…
Fragile
Pottery: Peace by Piece

My pottery passion has stemmed from difficult times. I just knew that everything would be fine again if I sunk my hands deep into clay and made something. I started pottery in my late teens after a bad break up, found it again while waiting for visas while living abroad and I was not able to do anything except wait. Then again when my mum died.
Every single moment I could possibly sink my hands deep into clay, I would. I love the soothing nature of clay. The ability to create something out of a lump of mud. No matter where your talent lies, you have the opportunity to create something useful and beautiful.
My studio started in March 2022 as a children’s holiday club which slowly grew into welcoming friends to my stoep and the friends invited their friends. It grew from there. My studio offers a relaxing atmosphere: the sound of the running water, the smell of delicious food and fresh flowers.
Leave the stresses of outside behind and delve into your creativity with personal projects and ideas.
I host weekly classes, monthly workshops, parties, family evenings, and everything in between. I love working with people and creating a space where you will feel cared for and nurtured, just as pottery has always been for me.
Clair de lune
Dining Couture
Contact Jacs on 082 418 9234
One of my favourite places to hang out is a fabric store. I noticed the arrival of the most beautiful designer fabric, specifically for the quilting community. I personally had no interest in quilting but I became completely obsessed with each and every new roll that arrived.I racked my brain for months thinking of ideas for what I could create with such unique, stunning material. And one day, just like that, it dawned upon me that there was a huge gap in the market for tableware. 12 years ago there was very little available to tart up your table, everything was so drab. Clair de Lune was born and I began producing locally made tablecloths, mats and napkins; bringing a splash of designer dining couture to every braai.
Juzt.Dance
Don't ever be without your dance fix
https://juzt.dance
I am Dana, aka TheQueen, and I've built a platform called juzt.dance I found my passion-and my healing - first with tango and then with kizomba.. and recently with Salsa and Bachata The joy of connecting with another person, with no agenda other than the enjoyment of the dance, the rhythmn that moves us and the honest appreciation for an experience never to be repeated, is nothing less than perfection. I was hooked... and found myself becoming itchy when I couldn't find a class or a party when I wanted to dance. Social media seemed limited to those already in the community, and unless you grew up after 2004, was really hard to navigate... só I built a solution to fix that! It's called juzt.danceJuzt.dance is a platform that connects a dancer to a dance teacher or dance event anywhere in the world. It's key objective is to celebrate, and promote, dance teachers, without whom, this bliss would be impossíble. We've branched out to include the DJs, dance friendly venues and dance associated suppliers , who support our value chain and, without whom we would be dancing to less than crystal sounds in less than perfect shoes... and after a few hours in heels, darling, you'll demand a decent pair!I also adore a discount, so once you've registered, and have your own code, you can refer friends, and obviously get rewarded for that; get discounts from any of the suppliers - offering everything from rhinestones to taxi rides - and save on dance classes - of course! So may we have this dance... in any of the dance genres, from pantsula to passadoble, from ballet to bollywood... any age, any time? Get rewarded every time you use the platform, grow the community and never be without your dance fix again!
